Subchallenge first steps: lay the foundations
Week 2 of LAPASSION project was related with the problem definition and preliminary research. We arranged a meeting with our counterpart, Humberto Godoy, who belongs to the Ministry of Transport Smart Cities unit. He present their vision of the topic; how they set the future of the mobility, and the problematic of the elder people mobility in 2040.
Our subchallenge is focused in developing solutions to improve the old people mobility in public transport in 2040 because of, according to the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile estimations, the gap between the population segment between 60-74 years old and above 75 years old starts to decrease in this year, although both segments increase their weight over the total population continually from nowadays to 2040, when both segments population start to stabilize. Therefore, 2040 is the beginning of the critical situation to deal with the specific problems of elder populations.
From this approach we have to make our own research, focusing in three topics: how elderly people will evolve from nowadays to 2040, the technological evolution of public mobility systems, and the growth of the megalopolis. My personal research is focused in the technological evolution of public mobility systems and the current proposals to deal with the means of transport problems in the future: roads congestion, public transport accessibility, social and environmental sustainability, etc. The aim of this exploratory research is to identify the main problems and factors which influence in elder population travel experience.
Future work will be focused in collect more information about technological trends and estimations, and compare the obtained conclusions with field data collected from personal interviews with the target population.

Good evening dears,
My name is Luis Felipe dos Santos Ribeiro, and I am a student of Civil Engineer. My Institute is IFG (Instituto Federal de Goiás) and I am in LAPASSION project as member of the group one.
The first week in Lapassion was awesome, because I knew my sub-challenge and my team, they are incribles. On Monday, we were introduced to ourselves and some importants rules from Santiago. The first class was about “How to do an apresentation”, I learned a lot things and I will use it in my ending apresentation. On Wendsday, the second class, we watched some apresentations to aplly the content seen in the first class. On Thursday, the most important class, we learned the methodology to start any project until to do the prototype, for us is a new methodology and other way of to resolve problems.

LAPASSION 2018 – Santiago de Chile
First week of april and also first week of LAPASSION project!
The initial experience about the first week was around the introduction about how to do a presentation and how to structure the idea and find and develop an opportunity to innovate. There are many steps to do and it’s not certain about the success. The division of groups was made and established the challenge, which “Improving conditions for aging population”. The sub-challenge for my group is “To improve older travelers experience in public transportation”.
We had also an introduction about how to execute the steps of development of the project simulating a solution which allows a significantly improve the experience of dog haircut. First we analyzed the situation, searched about the theme, discussed about the problem, reframing. After that we developed an idea, we needed a process to tranquilize pets before it has the haircut. The last step was prototyping. We decided create a place where the pet can stay with any of it’s toys and with a house, synthetic grass, food, water and the groomer could could play with it to get the trust and tranquilize the animal. So we did a small representation of the space with the materials available in the classroom.
Besides these activities we received the activities schedule for the next week and orientation how to start the challenge. Also defined the roles in the team and known more about our classmates.
Through that kickoff I’m really excited about the development of the project and the challenge to do it. We’ll learn a lot and acquire a fantastic experience.
Start of the LAPASSION project
My name is Edgar Martín Hernández, and I am Chemical Engineer. I participate in LAPASSION project as member of University of Salamanca. I enrolled in this project to develop transversal competences beyond my technical skills as engineer.
First of all I am going to present LAPASSION project. LAPASSION project is a conglomerate of different universities from Europe and Latinamerica created to develop solutions to address different problems. In particular LAPASSION 2018 is focused in create solutions to improve the aging populations life conditions, and our team will develop ideas and solutions to improve older traveler’s experience in public transportation. In this project our group will collaborate with the Ministry of Transportation Smart Cities division. They will provide us information about the problems which elder population find in the use of public transportation, and from this starting point we will lead our research to develop solutions. These solutions will be implemented through the construction of a prototype. DuocUC and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile will also provide classes in order to help us to complete the objectives and develop transversal skills.
In the first week we attend to LAPASSION project official presentation, and the research topic was assigned to our group. In the following days we attended to some classes in Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile related with how to carry out a project and present the research process and conclusions. Finally we also attend a class in DuocUC about how to perform the innovation process I our project.
Work in next weeks will be related with set the basis to start our research about the problems which elder population find using public transportation and meet our counterpart from the Ministry of Transportation Smart Cities division.
